Breaking News! It's Official...The Mets have traded RA Dickey to the Blue Jays

RA Dickey has passed his physical and signed his extension and the rumored deal has now become official.
So here's the final breakdown:

Toronto Blue Jays get:
R.A DICKEY
  • SP RA Dickey ( extension: 2 years @25 million, making his deal worth a total of 30 million over 3 years. The jays also reportedly will have an option for 2016 @ 12 million dollars)
  • Catcher Josh Thole
  • Catcher Mike Nickeas

The Mets will get:
Travis D'Arnaud
  • Jay's top prospect catcher Travis D'Arnaud
  • Jay's top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard
  • Catcher John Buck
  • 18 year old OF Wuilmer Becerra ( not a highly regarded prospect)
As Far as Dickey Extension goes:
Fox Sport's Ken Rosenthal & ESPN New York's Adam Rubin have both reported via twitter that the extension between the Jays and Dickey will be 2 years at about 25 million dollars. This will be on top of this year’s current deal in which Dickey is scheduled to make 5 million dollars. So the Blue Jays will essentially get Dickey for 3 years at around 30 million dollars.  They will also hold a team option for 2016 at about 12 million dollars. For what Dickey has done the last 3 years and the numbers he's put up that is certainly a bargain as far as it goes financially. However, they are giving up a substantial package of prospects to the Mets.

My Take:
I feel this deal defiantly helps the Mets farm system and rebuilding process. Although, the Mets will most likely not see dividends this year they will in 2014 and beyond as Alderson did a great job waiting out the market and getting a great deal for this club including a potential difference maker at catcher!
As far as this season goes with the current situation in the Mets outfield and bullpen the Mets would have probably finished in 4th place with Dickey and will probably finish in 4th without him this year those are the cold hard facts. So getting a deal like this that will pay dividends for them in the future and was the way to go!  The Mets have added two of baseball’s top 100 prospects to their farm system for a team that will not compete in the upcoming years that is always a plus.
