The Professor - 2012 NFL Mock Draft 4.0 (Post Combine)

1. Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Luck tested Cam-like. As advertised, he didn’t throw. Still looks like the Colts savior.

2. Browns: Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor

TRADE! The Rams have numerous needs. If the Rams intend to make a run in the division, then Fisher needs to fill in the blanks. Those blanks get filled by moving down. When the dust settles, the Browns will have most interest and the most chips to trade.

3. Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Confirmed his standing, as the No. 1 OT in this year’s draft. Plus, there is a bigger drop to the second ranked OT, than usual. Blackmon not participating, at the Combine, leaves a bad taste in the Ravens mouth. Blackmon could be Dez 2.0.

4. Rams (from Browns): Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

Blackmon will impress on his Pro Day. These “home turf” workouts are becoming almost a charade. The bias is in favor of the player. For the most part, that’s why you see the very top rated players electing to pass on the Combine work out. Nevertheless, Bradford needs a no.1 target.

5. Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, DB, LSU

BPA and need. Claiborne moves like a cat. He will improve his 40 time on his pro day.

6. Redskins: Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis

Claiborne is off the board. Kirpatrick ran fast enough to move him back up the board. Redskins pick their NT of the future. Poe is a beast and everything Haynesworth was meant to be. Will cycle with Cofield.

7. Jaguars: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

OT is the cornerstone in building a successful franchise. Scouts believe Reiff can play the left side. The Jags will give Blaine Gabbert every chance to succeed.

8. Dolphins: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

I expect the Dolphins to sign Matt Flynn. As usual, there is an early run on OT. Caveat Emptor, Flynn could be the second coming of Kevin Kolb.

9. Panthers: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

DeCastro is a big man with amazing feet. He is the safest pick in the entire draft.

10. Bills: Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

Impressive Combine. Faster then expected. Excellent character. Tackling machine is not an overstatement.

11. Chiefs: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Too much value to let fall further. Chiefs grab the best back in the draft. A 2 back rotation with Charles is what the doctor ordered to revive a stagnant offense.

12. Seahawks: Nick Perry, DE, USC

The deepest and most talented class in the Draft is DE. More freaks than a circus!

13. Cardinals: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Great hands and faster than expected. Perhaps, more than a possession receiver.

14. Cowboys: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Pot charges were dropped. Jerry goes for the more physical CB to assist a poor Cowboy secondary.

15. Eagles: Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia

Must keep Vick alive if they have any chance at making the playoffs.

16. Jets: Michaels Brockers, DT, LSU

Brockers falls to the Green Machine. Will shore up the nose for a decade.

17. Bengals: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Jenkins has too much talent to pass because of past personal issues. He checks out.

18. Chargers: Kendall Wright, WR/KR, Baylor

Poor 40 at the Combine drops Wright behind Floyd. Must replace WR lost to Free Agency.

19. Bears: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Big, strong, possession receiver. Should work well with Cutler in the underneath zones. Will wait to his pro day to kick the tires.

20. Titans: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

Coples falls into the lap of the Titans. After an average Senior Bowl and a slightly above average Combine performance, Coples will be able to hit the reset button after his pro day. Questions regarding transition and work ethic will linger.

21. Bengals: Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Another beast with a freaky athletic skill set. Bengals welcomed him to the jungle. These guys are revolutionizing the position. Gotta have one.

22. Rams: (from Browns) Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

The run of monster DTs, that tested off the charts, continues.

23. Lions: Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois

Lions want to attack on defense. Mercilus fits the program.

24. Steelers: Dont’a Hightower, ILB, Alabama

The proud Steelers got old quick. They correctly moved the focus to Big Ben. Now it appears they are having second thoughts. Hightower quiets the critics for a week.

25. Broncos: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

If you truly believe that Tebow is an NFL QB, demographics suggest you are a middle class white male Republican, and Elway respectfully disagrees with you.

26. Texans: Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Lack of college production is system related not reflective of his abilities. His Combine measurables were impressive.

27. Pats: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

Cox fills the hole left by the disappointing adventure with Haynesworth.

28. Packers: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

More than likely will lose their starting center to Free Agency. Konz slides seamlessly into place.

29. Ravens: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

Edge rusher will fit very well into Ravens aging roster.

30. 49ers: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

I tried to mock a WR here, but the 1^st round guys are gone. I tried to mock Tannehill here, but he won’t slide that far. Adams lands here after a poor Combine performance.

31. Pats: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

Upshaw has been a disappointment so far in the testing process. He falls.

32. Giants: Andre Branch, DE, Clemson

Another of Reese’s pieces. As usual, Jerry takes BPA, while he plans for 3 years out. He passes on Miller and Barron.

Professor - 2012 NFL Mock Draft 3.0

With pick changes 


1. Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Luck won’t throw at the Combine, but will demonstrate enough athletic ability, crush the interview, and look like the face of a franchise needing to move on. Colt’s man-crush keeps Luck the number 1 overall.

2. Browns: Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor

TRADE! There is no way the Rams keep this pick. They love Bradford and have numerous needs. Fisher knows the Rams are closer than we think. He needs to fill in the blanks. He can fill in more of those blanks by moving down. The Professor believes, when the dust settles, the Browns will have most interest and the most chips to trade.

3. Ravens: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

TRADE! Ravens win the Peyton sweepstakes. The Ravens have been close but no cigar. Ozzie knows, the Ravens as presently constructed, have an expiration date equal to a quart of milk. Without a couple of bold moves, the Ravens will incrementally fade out of contention. “All in”. “Once more into the breach”. You get the idea, its do or die for the Ravens.

4. Rams (from Browns): Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Fisher’s excellent adventure begins with OL. Kalil is the best of this draft class.

5. Buccaneers: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

Butch Davis gets another bite of the apple. Coples is a talented 4-3 DE. Sheridan played 4-3 with the Giants, and will need to attack from the edge.

6. Cowboys: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

TRADE! When the dust settles, I believe the Skins will have inked a new starting QB. Since the Ravens will have won the services of Peyton Manning, that QB will be Joe Flacco. With Clairborne still on the board and with Jerry dropping Kirkpatrick down, the Cowboys are motivated to get the best CB in the Draft. The Skins will want to upgrade both OL and WR. They can find quality down the board. Skins see it as a 2 for 1.

7. Jaguars: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

Everyone has written off Blaine, but the Jaguars. The Jaguars are a work in progress and so is Gabbert. Check back with me in 3 years and we will see how it all worked out. Reiff is a corner piece in a big puzzle.

8. Dolphins: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

I expect the Dolphins to sign Matt Flynn. As usual, there is an early run at OT. Kendall Wright’s explosive play is tempting. Wright’s speed would help clear the mid-range zones for Marshall. Caveat Emptor, Flynn could be the second coming of Kevin Kolb. OT is one of the cornerstones to an NFL franchise.

9. Panthers: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

Cam now DeCastro. They hit last year with the riskiest pick, now they make the safest.

10. Bills: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

Brockers is a man-child. He will be ready when the Bills are. Perfect timing and not too soon. Bills are close.

11. Chiefs: Devon Still , DE/DT, Penn State

Defenses must attack. Still helps stiffen the Chiefs front for a good group of LB’s to work off of.

12. Seahawks: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama

Pete Carroll feels lucky and everyone loves speed on the edge. Upshaw falls to the Trojans, I mean the Seahawks.

13. Cardinals: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Best player on their board. They add to last year’s standout Patrick Peterson.

14. Redskins: (from Cowboys) Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Redskins add protection for my predicted acquisition of Joe Flacco. Shanahan knows Flacco will fit with his run first offense. Redskins will sign a top free agent WR, and draft one in the later rounds. Shanahan has visions of Elway. “A man’s greatest strength is his greatest weakness”. Adams is a road-grader.

15. Eagles: Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

If the Eagles don’t over-think the pick, it will be Kuechly. Andy loves to look smarter than the rest of the room. That understated stuff is a front. The first round OTs are off the board.

16. Jets: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Pound and ground. LT retires. They stick with Sanchez for another year, so they must effectively run the ball. Sanchez regressed this year. So did Matt Ryan, with greater set of tools to work with! Play action is chicken soup for QBs.

17. Bengals: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Jenkins has too much talent to pass because of past personal issues. He checks out.

18. Chargers: Kendall Wright, WR/KR, Baylor

Need an injection of speed. Never replaced Sproles.

19. Bears: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Cutler has proven the Bears got the best of the deal. Now it’s time to commit to him. This is Cutler’s team. It needs to look like it. A proud defensive franchise must transition the focus to their gunslinger. They will find a TE later in the draft.

20. Titans: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Big, strong, possession receiver. Could be the steal of the draft at 20.

21. Bengals: Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

I know! The Bengals double dip. They miss Jonathan Joseph that much.

22. Rams: (from Browns) Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC

Prototypical edge rusher. High risk, high reward.

23. Lions: Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois

Lions want to attack on defense. Mercilus fits the program.

24. Steelers: Don’t’a Hightower, ILB, Alabama

25. Broncos: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

Defensive player personnel groups must respond to multiple receiver groupings and the evolution of the spread attack. Recent rules regarding the defenseless receiver have compounded the issue, and contributed to elevating the value for DBs. Broncos need to add new blood to an old group of DBs.

26. Texans: Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis

The Texans need a WR to compliment Johnson. Professor believes they will resolve the issue in Free Agency. The Texans are ready now! They can’t wait for a rookie to learn the route tree. They will draft a project in the later rounds. For now, there is too much value in a bigger nose. They add Poe to an excellent 3 – 4.

27. Pats: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

Giants, as expected, crowded the box. Brady must do more than run the football through the air. That being said, the Pats go with BPA. That player is Ingram. If Sanu runs a great 40, I may restore him to this spot.

28. Packers: Jerel Worthy, DE/DT, Michigan State

Raji played too many downs. Need a viable rotation. Front wore down exposing LBs.

29. Vikings: (from Ravens), Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia

Young QB running the show in 2012. AP coming back from knee surgery. Adding to the core at 29.

30. 49ers: Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers

They have very few options, but to re-sign Smith. Crabtree is a disappointment. It’s that simple.

31. Pats: Mark Barron, SS, Alabama

The 6th player from Alabama taken in the first round. Roll tide. Barron’s a steal at 31.

32. Giants: Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina

Zach Brown already has Pro Bowl coverage skills. Needs to improve at the point of attack. If the Giants don’t resign Deon Grant, then either Jones or Sash must step up. The other option is to play less 3 safety. Kiwanuka, Boley, Williams, and Brown would make for the fastest LB group in the league and mitigate the loss of Grant. Rolle can step out of the box and into Grant’s slot. If Barron falls, he could be an option. OL and TE are needed. Reese will take the player that falls to him, with Brown being the first choice.

1. Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Now, I know everyone is starting freak-out over RG3’s arm strength, but the Combine be damned, in the end Irsay is a white guy who will pick a white guy to be the face of the franchise. Privately, the merchandize excuse will be given. So relax Johnny U., the only thing black will be your high-tops and the night they snuck out of Baltimore. Pollan would have chosen RG3.

2. Browns: Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor

Good fortune shines on Coach Fisher. First Cam explodes, the Colts pass on RG3, and the next big thing (aka the “Evolution”) is there for the taking! Sam Bradford has so much promise that the Rams find a partner with deep pockets. Make it rain! TRADE!

3. Ravens: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

Ozzie purchases a ticket to the Super Bowl for the Ravens! Harbaugh can manage aging superstars and Peyton will extend the shelf life of the roster. Evans will not be invited back. Vikings are more than one player away. Ravens shoot for the moon. The Gods return a/the Colts to Baltimore. The Vikings need a little of everything. TRADE!

Fisher gets real, not flashy. Kalil will provide time for Bradford to get the ball down field, and Fisher knows his brilliance is tied to Bradford’s health.

Teams must be effective attacking the passer with 4. Top QB’s check away from schemes. Coples is a freak, and Butch Davis is joining the Bucs coaching staff as an advisor.

6. Cowboys: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Redskins sign Flaco so RG3 is not in the plan. There is a lot to like at 6, but Jerry does Dallas. He is hungry for big moves, and to upgrade a weak secondary after dropping Kirkpatrick down their board. Cowboys reach for the best CB prospect in this year’s draft. TRADE!

7. Jaguars: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

Everyone is down on Blaine Gabbert, except Jacksonville. Improved protection is a must. The expectation is improved play from their young QB, unless he starts dating a Kardashian!

Must stretch the field. Giants, as expected, crowded the box. Brady must do more than run the football through the air. Sanu offers an option to 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

28. Packers: Jerel Worthy, DE/DT, Michigan State

Raji plays too many downs. Need a viable rotation. Wore down.

29. Vikings: (from Ravens), Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

Lawrence Taylor or Taylor Lawrence? Worth the risk at 29.

30. 49ers: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

They resign Smith, but they press for the next step. WR is an option, but must wait to the 2nd round. 1st tier wide outs already off the board.

31. Pats: Mark Barron, SS, Alabama

The 6th player from Alabama taken in the first round. Roll tide. Barron’s a steal at 31.

32. Giants: Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina

What The NY JETS Must Do!

• Sign Chad Henne thru Free Agency.

As good or better than Mark Sanchez. Sparano! 

• Trade Mark Sanchez for a 2012 pick.

The heat in the locker room is to much. It's either him or Santonio. The JETS say Holmes is staying!

• Sign Peyton Manning!

NO BRAINER! The Manning brothers both in the NY/NJ Market?!?!? Goodell is salivating, Sexy Rexy has a man crush, merchandising will go thru the roof, Eli & Peyton can BBQ....I can go on and on and on and on....NEED I SAY MORE?

• Trade Dustin Keller for a 2012 pick.

He's gone. The rumor is out. 

• Sign Dallas Clark.

He's available and Peyton will throw to him all day. He will not go back to the Colts.

• Trade down with the 16th pick

Swap firsts (#22) with Cleveland and get there 2012 3rd round pick. The Jets need help in a lot of areas.
