DRUID'S 2013 NFL MOCK DRAFT 1.0

Introducing DRUID
(the Professor changed his name)

  1. Kansas City– Mike Glennon, QB, N.C. State – “I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob”. Andy’s no fool! He won’t try to resurrect Cassel or Quinn. The market for trading the pick is zero. Can’t play it safe with Joeckel. The Chiefs will select a QB. My guess is Glennon goes 1st overall. Smith may be Vick 2.0.

  1. Jacksonville – Jarvis Jones, DE/OLB, Georgia – The Jags brought in a defensive minded head coach, in Gus Bradley, who will put a premium on speed. Jones can splash. New GM David Caldwell, checked Mr. Kahn’s personal inclinations, slamming the door on the Tebow circus coming to town.

  1. Oakland – Star Lotuelei, NT, Utah – The Raiders are a mess. No single move will turn this thing around. For years Al Davis built from the outside in. Popular wisdom suggests the opposite is needed. No better way to begin than to draft this anchor. Terrelle Pryor will replace Palmer as the starting QB.

  1. Philadelphia – Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M – Vick, McCoy, and Jackson will benefit from Chip Kelly’s read/option. The personnel on the Eagles are much better than their record. Team speed is above average in the league. Joeckel offers a superior athletic package. Is Nick Foles is now available? How about to Jacksonville for the 33rd pick in the draft?

  1. Detroit – Damontre Moore, DE/OLB, Texas A&M – The Lions are a pass rush away from the playoffs. In Detroit, Moore will acquire the nickname of the “Silver Surfer”.

  1. Cleveland – Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia – Cleveland must move on from missing out on RG3. I doubt Rob Chudzinski will tie his fortunes to Weeden. The popular shortcut to offensive proficiency is to incorporate the read/option. Geno Smith and Tyler Wilson offer complementary skill sets.
  1. Arizona – Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas – Bruce Arians will grab either Smith or Wilson, whichever is on the board. My guess is Wilson. The Cards cannot wait to trade back into the bottom of the 1st round. The Bills are ready to pounce 1 slot behind them and Jacksonville has the advantage when negotiating into the bottom of the 1st round. The market for “old school” quarterbacks has depreciated.

  1. Buffalo – Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan – Lewan has elected to return to Michigan so Fisher is the next OT off the board. Marrone will now try and add Ryan Nassib in the 2nd round. Fitzpatrick will hold down the fort until he Nassib is ready.

  1. N.Y. Jets – Bjoern Werner, DE/OLB, Florida State – The Jets will breath a sigh of relief that the top QBs are off the board. Rex will covet this edge rusher. Are the Jets interested in Nick Foles?

  1. Tennessee- DeMarcus Milliner, CB, Alabama – Top CB in the draft added to a challenged secondary.

  1. San Diego – Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee – Philip Rivers is in his prime and the Chargers have so many needs. This is a little high for Patterson, but a good place to start is to keep Rivers happy. Floyd is a number 2. Meachem and Royal haven’t worked out.

  1. Miami – Johnathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State – The Dolphins traded Davis to the Colts. With Banks, they add a quality corner and continue to build a culture of responsibility. If they don’t resign Long, perhaps this pick is Jonathan Cooper.

  1. Tampa Bay – Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon – Milliner and Banks are off the board, and Bowers health is a concern. Jordan will be compared to Chandler Jones. A little lightening will help hide the weaknesses on the back end (Giants 2011).

  1. Carolina –Jonathan Cooper, OT, North Carolina – Dave Gettleman has been named The Panther’s GM. He will bring with him the Giant method for approaching the draft. 1- He will select the Best Value Available. 2- Next to QB, an OT has the highest positional value. 3- The continued development of Cam is job 1. Cooper brings elite ability to a position of high value.
  1. New Orleans – Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri – The Saints begin rebuilding a defense by grabbing this beast.

  1. St. Louis – Chance Warmack, G, Alabama – Sam Bradford’s development is the priority. Warmack is a special talent. The Rams add a WR with the 22nd pick.

  1. Pittsburgh – Johnathan Hankins, NT, Ohio State – Casey Hampton is a UFA and won’t be back. Te’o to the Steelers was a hoax.

  1. Dallas– Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia– Rob Ryan has been let go. Jerry watchers should expect a focus in the draft on defense. The “Boys” look first to stiffen a soft defensive front.

  1. N.Y. Giants – Manti Te’o, ILB, Notre Dame – The greatest immediate need is a CB. The 1st round CBs are off the board. Priority number 1 is stopping the run! Jerry Reese’s team will vet out the poor performance in the National Championship game and his fake girlfriend. If these blips on a sparkling resume check out the Gmen will shallow hard, pass on Mingo, and ask Te’o to advance the proud tradition of Sam Huff.

  1. Chicago – Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU – Sooner than later, Urlacher will follow Ray Lewis into the HOF. Mingo is the best player on the board. He will help begin the needed changing of the guard for the Bears defense. Marc Trestman will tweak the offense in the later rounds.

  1. Cincinnati – Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia – Never replaced Joseph, but 1st round CB’s are off the broad. Ogletree will replace Maualuga who is a UFA.

  1. St. Louis (from Washington) – Keenan Allen, WR, California – The Rams need to upgrade their wideouts. Gibson, Amendola, and Smith are UFAs. Perhaps, all won’t be back. Quick is developing at a disappointing rate.

  1. Minnesota – Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia– Peterson will, more than likely, be elected MVP. That said, the Viking offense is dangerously over-dependent on a diminishing return. No human can carry that load without wearing down. Ponder must develop, and to do that he must have help. Percy Harvin’s status is a question mark.

  1. Indianapolis – Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU – Mathis and Freeney will need to be cycled out soon. Montgomery fits the mold.

  1. Seattle – Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor – Pete must layer some additional options into his offense. The Seahawks should not rely, too heavily, on “Beast Mode” and Wilson’s creativity. Sidney Rice has lost his explosion.

  1. Green Bay – Barrett Jones, C, Alabama – Jeff Saturday is done. Jones can fill any need along the OL. Packers stay solid at 26.

  1. Houston – Tyler Eifer, TE, Notre Dame – If you can’t beat them, join them. Eifer could join Daniels and provide Schaub with dual TE alignments, similar to some of Pats sets.

  1. Denver – Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU – The whole thing rests on Peyton remaining upright and healthy, but the Broncos must generate a pass rush to get off the field. Peyton is helpless without the ball in his hands.

  1. New England – Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee – Brady has no one to stretch the field. With all the short and mid-range routes, opposing defenses are packing it in. Hunter’s size and speed can alter that equation. Welker and Branch are UFAs.

  1. Atlanta – D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama – Fluker is quick and huge. His (36 3/8) arms are tops in the crop. The Falcons won’t panic. They know they are close.

  1. Baltimore – Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU – Ray Lewis will be impossible to replace. Will Minter be asked to plug too many holes in the dike of an aging defense? Look for more defensive help to be added in this draft.

  1. San Francisco – DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson – Randy Moss won’t be back. Manningham, coming off an ACL, may not be back. Jenkins’s development is like watching paint dry. The 49’ers will want to add to Crabtree, Davis, and Kaepernick’s legs.

No way is Buffalo taking a tackle in the first round. They flat out just don't do that and will take the BPA if their QB/LB/WR isn't there or isn't worthy of the pick.
